Making Time For Wellness

Making Time For Wellness

I’m writing this blog because the biggest challenge I face as a working mum is having enough time to maintain my wellbeing and I know many of you are in exactly the same position. We may be totally committed to looking after ourselves, we may love working out and enjoy eating healthily, but time is rarely on our side. With demanding jobs, busy home lives and monthly budgets that can’t justify organic meal delivery schemes, personal trainers or studio passes we may never get round to using, it’s a constant juggle of priorities.  So how do I personally make time for wellness with no help, three kids, a dog, a business and a house to run?? On paper, I don’t. Look in my diary and there’s not a minute to spare...

5 shifts I’m making to bring more joy into my life

5 shifts I’m making to bring more joy into my life

January is well and truly under way. How are you doing? And how are those resolutions going? I’m not sure how I feel about resolutions  – the competitive, perfectionist in me secretly loves the challenge of taking on more and being so virtuous but the holistic mamma in me says, slow down, go gentle, you’re pretty amazing just as you are.  Whichever, side of the fence you’re on, there’s no denying January is toughie to get through without a touch of the blues. If you raced off with plans to overhaul everything from your wardrobe to your workout, the enthusiasm is probably waning a little by now. Am I right?  I didn’t make any fixed resolutions this year but I did have an “intention”, that I’m sure will...

Self Care for the Festive Season

Feeling more frazzled than festive? Read Lucy’s latest blog where she shares her down-to-earth tips for staying fit, healthy and sane at this super hectic time of the year.  If you love the whole twinkly build-up to Christmas but feel like you have so much to do that you can’t even stop to take a breath, I wrote this blog for you because that’s exactly how I feel every December. Excited but overwhelmed and completely out of my normal, strictly-scheduled, healthy routine. I’ve discovered the hard way that if I don’t set some personal wellness priorities and stick with them I end up feeling overwhelmed, stressed and unwell by the end of the year.  So just how can you enjoy all the preparations and accept...

My Inner Beauty Secrets for Outer Radiance

My Inner Beauty Secrets for Outer Radiance

The way our skin looks is always determined by a combination of factors – our lifestyle, our genes, our sleep habits, our diet and our stress levels, to name a few of the biggies. We all know this, yet we still take a largely external approach to our complexion, relying on an array of skincare products and the contents of our makeup bag to do the hard work of boosting radiance, hiding tiredness and generally making us look more like we feel we should look. Despite being savvy, well-informed, grown women, with a bathroom cabinet already heaving with potions and lotions, we find it hard to resist the seductive marketing claims of the beauty industry, the exciting magazine coverage of the latest must-have...

How I used yoga to improve my gut health

How I used yoga to improve my gut health

Keeping our gut happy and healthy is the holy grail of wellness these days. And with good reason. A healthy gut is a key component of overall, and even optimum wellbeing. With 80% of our immune system located in the gut, it makes sense that a happy gut helps us maintain a healthy weight, absorb more nutrients from our food, fight off illness and even help us feel more positive. I’m lucky not to suffer with any serious food intolerances or gut-related conditions myself, I do however - like most women I know -  experience bloating, food-related fatigue, gas and constipation despite what I could consider following a gut friendly-diet (healthy fats, nuts and seeds, plant protein, fish, slow carbs and...

3 Calming Rituals to Bring Close to Your Day

3 Calming Rituals to Bring Close to Your Day

Does your evening routine involve a quick cleanse of the face with a wipe to remove the day’s makeup, a snack because you were too tired to cook a proper meal and you’re now hungry, checking your Instagram feed one last time or shutting down your laptop as you reluctantly resist watching one last episode of your new Netflix obsession? Hmmm - how’s that working for you? We all know this kind of behaviour isn’t great for our sleep patterns but it’s hard to switch off and let go in our busy, modern world. Experts call this kind of behaviour “bad sleep hygiene” and we easily fall into these habits when we dismiss the importance of letting our body unwind ready for sleep. If you experience difficulties falling...
